Avenue 5: Season 2

Following the cliffhanger ending of the first season of Avenue 5, the passengers and crew are still drifting perilously through space. Will they make it safely back to the Earth?

The science fiction comedy stars Hugh Laurie as the captain of interplanetary cruise ship Avenue 5. Following a momentary loss of artificial gravity, the ship moves a few degrees off course and it’s estimated that the 8-week cruise will take 3 years until its return to Earth.

Cinesite delivered the eponymous ship, in addition to some of the more complex visual effects, which were vital for establishing the ship’s distant and precarious location in space. Overseen by In-house VFX Supervisor Zave Jackson and production VFX Supervisor Barney Curnow, the ship which had been created for the first season was completely overhauled.

Avenue 5 was created by Armando Iannucci and the first season premiered in January 2020, with the second premiering in the US on 10th October 2022.
